The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations is sponsoring an all-day session, by one of the nation’s leading Language Arts teachers, Linda Christensen.  Ms. Christensen is giving an intriguing teaching session on Saturday, October 9th.  Participants will gain strategies to promote academic success for their students, promote acceptance among diverse students, and make connections to the Language Arts curriculum and standards.

The event, also sponsored and held at the University of Southern California, School of Education, features Ms. Christensen’s unique teaching style, one that has made her an extremely popular lecturer.  She is a co-director of the Oregon Writing Project at Lewis and Clark College, and a Rethinking Schools editor.  Her multiple publications include:  Reading, Writing and Rising Up:  Teaching about Social Justice and the Power of the Written Word.

The workshop starts at 9:00 a.m., and continues until 3:00 p.m.  It is part of the “Rethinking Public Schools” Series.  The event, sponsored by USC School of Education and the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations, is being held in Waite Phillips Hall.  The $20.00 fee includes a continental breakfast and lunch, along with a book and the printed materials.  Parking is not included and is $6 per day at the USC Campus, Figueroa entrance.  For more information, contact Talma Scherson at (213) 974-7626, or via e-mail at:  tscherson@hrc.co.la.ca.us
